Biography
Dublin delivered Douglas Gerrard to the world on 12 August 1891, and by the time the cameras started rolling he had already traded Irish mist for California sunshine. Between 1917 and 1929 he steered performances in front of and behind the lens, guiding Polly Put the Kettle On through its comic boil, unsealing the melodrama of The Sealed Envelope, and choreographing the fast-talking chaos of The Hottentot. Forty-five summers later, on 5 June 1950, Hollywood’s lights dimmed for him one last time.
