Summary
In a frantic distillation of 1920s kineticism, Harry Willis emerges as the quintessential failed protagonist, returning to the arms of Helen Hendon with pockets as empty as his promises of a six-month fortune. Desperation facilitates a descent into the surreal when he accepts a $10,000 wager—a king's ransom for a mere twenty-four hours of absolute obedience to a set of cryptic instructions. What follows is a labyrinthine odyssey through the bizarre: a masquerade ball that dissolves into an imbroglio of mistaken identities, a terrifying encounter with a megalomaniacal surgeon intent on grafting a gorilla's cerebrum into Harry’s skull, and a visceral skirmish within a clandestine temple over a coveted idol. The narrative arc takes a sharp, meta-textual turn when Harry, seeking a marriage license, discovers his harrowing ordeal was a meticulously staged gauntlet designed to evaluate his viability as a cinematic icon. He doesn't just win the girl; he secures a celluloid legacy.
