Biography
Born in the roar of 1848 Manhattan, Julia Hurley stepped onto gas-lit stages before the camera had even learned to whisper. By 1914 she was already a seasoned trouper, lending her weathered grace to the flames of Il trovatore and the sweat-soaked shadows of The Jungle. Four years later she slipped into the March family’s parlor for Little Women, grounding the beloved story with the gravel and heart of a lifetime in the theater. She took her final bow in her native city on 4 June 1927, leaving the New York streets she had always called home a little quieter without her.
