Biography
Salt Lake City greeted Lee Shumway on 4 March 1884, and by the time the cameras rolled he had traded mountain vistas for movie sets. Between silents and serials he slipped into hundreds of roles, memorably hunting clues in The Bat (1926), chasing headlines in Go-Get-'Em, Haines (1936), and saddling up beside the frontier icon in Buffalo Bill Rides Again (1947). Off-screen he shared his life with actress Lucille Elizabeth Stanhope; on-screen he kept audiences guessing until the final reel. The journey ended in Los Angeles on 4 January 1959, closing a career that spanned the birth of Hollywood to the rise of television.
