Biography
Born on the frost-bitten first Friday of 1890 in Wapanucka, Oklahoma—a town whose very name sounds like a dare—Leo Willis traded the quiet of the Choctaw Nation for the flicker of silent-film reels. By 1917 he was bull’s-eyeing audiences in the fifteen-episode cliffhanger *The Bull’s Eye*; five years later he stormed through the sawdust-and-stunts serial *The Timber Queen*; and in 1928 he cocked his hat in *The Big Killing*, sealing a résumé as durable as the celluloid it was printed on. Off-screen he pledged himself to May Frances Hennessy, a marriage that outlasted the silent era itself. On 10 April 1952, the Pacific tides claimed him in Monterey County, California, closing the final curtain on a life lived frame by fearless frame.
