Biography
Maude George slipped through the silent era like velvet smoke, her patrician profile lending instant pedigree to Universal’s melodramas from 1915 onward. While leading-lady spots were scarce, she reigned as the studio’s go-to grande dame, every raised eyebrow and tapered fingertip declaring old-money authority. Between Universal assignments she drifted to Vitagraph and later to Goldwyn, still trading on the same frost-bred elegance. When sound crashed the gates, she simply stepped away; microphones never captured that cultivated voice. Off-screen she wed fellow player Arthur Forde, and years later, still defiantly quiet, she closed her final curtain in California.
