Biography

Berlin, 23 May 1875: Max Davidson enters the world and, before the century turns, steps straight onto the stage. A comic spark with a drooping mustache and a knack for hapless fathers, he vault from German cabaret to Hollywood slapstick, leaving laughter echoing through A Daughter of the Poor (1917), tilting at windmills in Don Quixote (1915), and outrunning a wall of water in The Johnstown Flood (1926). Off-screen he shares life—and a wedding ring—with Alice Marti. On 4 September 1950, in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, the curtain falls for the last time.
