Biography
A spring baby of 15 April 1885, Richard Travers first opened his eyes in Sarnia, Ontario, a small Canadian town that would one day watch him trade its quiet lakefront for Hollywood klieg lights. Travers carved out a dual career in front of and behind the lens, steering the camera as both actor and director. Audiences of the silent era remember his fingerprints on the action-packed western *The Man Trail* (1915), the atmospheric chiller *The Unholy Night* (1929), and the swashbuckling romance *In the Palace of the King* (1915). Off-screen, he collected three last names: Violet Palmer, Lillian May Cattell—better known to fans as May Franklin—and Augusta West. His final curtain fell on 20 April 1935, in San Pedro, California, a Pacific breeze ushering him out at the age of fifty.
