Biography
Slim Whitaker cut his teeth on the rodeo circuit at just 17, later riding out as a cowhand on the Chowchilla Ranch in central California. In 1912, Gilbert M. “Broncho Billy” Anderson recruited him as a riding extra and stuntman for westerns shot in Niles Canyon, CA. During the silent era he worked alongside a who’s‑who of the genre—Hal Taliaferro, Al Bridge, Charles King, Ken Maynard, Yakima Canutt, Walter Brennan, Hoot Gibson, a very young John Wayne, and many others. Whitaker became one of the most prolific B‑western villains and character players, amassing a career that stretched 36 years from the silent era into the post‑World War II period, with credits in more than 300 films.
