Summary
In the nascent, often chaotic, world of early Hollywood, "The Big Stunt" thrusts us into the high-stakes life of Jack "Daredevil" Riley (John Tansey), a stuntman whose reputation for audacious feats is as legendary as his reckless abandon. Employed by the perennially struggling Apex Studios, under the watchful, if exasperated, eye of its owner Mr. Sterling (S.J. Bingham), Jack is tasked with executing the titular, death-defying "Big Stunt" – a canyon leap intended to be the grand finale of their latest picture. However, the line between cinematic peril and real-world danger blurs when the unscrupulous financier Silas Blackwood (Slim Whitaker), representing a rival studio, orchestrates a cunning plot to sabotage Apex, aiming to steal their film’s reels, which reportedly contain revolutionary special effects. With the studio's very existence hanging precariously, Jack, accompanied by his remarkably astute canine companion, Wolfheart, and the spirited leading lady, Lily Travers (Kathleen Collins), must pivot from performing for the cameras to a desperate, real-life chase. The "Big Stunt" morphs from a set piece into a perilous act of defiance, demanding Jack not only outmaneuver Blackwood’s henchmen and recover the stolen footage but also prove his inherent heroism beyond the flash of the spotlight, all while navigating a burgeoning romance with Lily and relying on the well-meaning, if clumsy, assistance of his aide, "Bull" Murphy (Guinn 'Big Boy' Williams).
