Biography
A St. Louis summer—22 July 1885—brought William Lowery into the world, and from that Mississippi River town he would travel west to etch his silhouette on flickering screens. In front of the camera he charged through 1924’s Battling Buddy, swung a sword in 1922’s Robin Hood, and peeled back society’s curtains for 1926’s Faithful Wives; behind it he called the shots as director, shaping the same stories he once acted out. The arc of his life ended on 15 November 1941 in Los Angeles, but the reels he left behind still spin, keeping the low-lit theaters of memory forever alive with his presence.
