Biography
On a Roman summer day—11 July 1889—Amleto Palermi drew his first breath in the city whose light would later spill across his film sets. Over the next five decades he shaped more than sixty screen stories, scripting and staging everything from the restless ghost caper L’allegro fantasma (1941) to the velvet-melodrama La peccatrice (1940) and the brittle society portrait The Old Lady (1932). The Tiber claimed him back on 20 April 1941, leaving the cameras still turning on the back-lot he had haunted since cinema’s early shout.
