Biography
Carmine Gallone first drew breath on 10 September 1885 amid the olive groves of Taggia, Liguria. Behind the camera he became a storytelling force, guiding the sweeping lives of Giuseppe Verdi (1938), setting Odessa ablaze in the wartime thriller of 1942, and marching alongside Scipione l’africano in 1937. His partner in life and art was Soava Gallone. Half a century and a continent of reels later, he took his final bow on 12 March 1973 in Frascati, Lazio, leaving the projector lamp still warm for the next reel.
