Biography
Harold M. Shaw entered the world on 3 November 1877 in the river-town of Brownsville, Tennessee, and spent the next forty-eight years turning celluloid into living stories. Behind the camera he steered South Africa’s first feature, The Rose of Rhodesia (1918), coaxed speed and heart from Thoroughbreds All (1919), and earlier, in 1914, had already turned London’s fog into romance for The Incomparable Mistress Bellairs. Between shoots he stepped in front of the lens himself, adding actor to his résumé. Off-set he shared his life with actress Edna Flugrath. His final scene rolled on 30 January 1926 in Los Angeles, California, but the flicker of the worlds he created still lights up screens.
