Biography
Lau Lauritzen entered the world on 13 March 1878 amid the lake-studded hills of Silkeborg, Denmark, and grew into a filmmaker whose lens shaped silent-era Denmark. With a steady hand he steered Manden der gøer (1919) into theaters, followed by the crisp rural drama Harestegen (1921) and a sweeping vision of Cervantes in Don Quixote (1926). Off-screen, his life intertwined twice in matrimony—first with actress Ulla Poulsen, later with Hulda Christensen. His final scene closed quietly on 2 July 1938 in Copenhagen, leaving the city’s projectors still humming with the afterglow of his stories.
