Summary
Jerold, a man whose existence has been reduced to a series of apologetic nods and domestic chores, finds himself at the breaking point of his own emasculation. Under the dubious tutelage of a neighbor whose own marital philosophy leans toward the prehistoric, Jerold conceives a desperate stratagem to reclaim his perceived lost virility. He abducts his wife—not to a place of luxury, but to a desolate, sun-scorched island, intending to force a regression into a 'cave-man' existence. This isn't merely a camping trip gone wrong; it is a quixotic attempt to strip away the veneer of 1920s civilization and replace the dumbwaiter with the club. However, the island becomes a theatrical stage for the absurd, where the rugged fantasies of the patriarch-to-be collide violently with the reality of his own ineptitude and the resilient, perhaps even superior, adaptability of the woman he sought to 'tame.' The film functions as an atavistic farce, dissecting the fragility of the male ego against a backdrop of isolation and primitive survivalism.
