In the chiaroscuro of a slapstick cosmos where Tin Lizzies clatter like broken metronomes, a moonstruck swain—equal parts Harold Lloyd pluck and Buster Keaton inertia—pilots his sputtering flivver across a landscape that feels sketched by a Futurist having a sugar crash. His beloved, a porcelain-firecracker heiress trussed into leg-o’-mutton sleeves, is minutes from vow-shackling to a top-hatted brute whose moustache twirls itself like a barber’s pole of villainy. The film unspools as a zig-zagging chase through hay-loft, ferryboat, carnival midway and courthouse, each set-piece a pop-up book page slammed open by a vindictive wind.
