Summary
Charley Chase stars as a reluctant aristocrat in this biting 1927 silent comedy. The story follows Charley, whose ambitious mother has effectively purchased him a social standing by marrying a Count. This newfound title makes him the ultimate prize for Mrs. MacIntosh, a social climber desperate to impress her peers. She secures Charley as a dinner guest, much to the chagrin of her husband, MacIntosh, who views the young man as an effeminate intruder. MacIntosh decides to expedite Charley's departure by hiring a group of street thugs to 'handle' him. However, the plan backfires spectacularly. Instead of a fragile dandy, the goons encounter a surprisingly capable scrapper. Charley’s physical resilience and unexpected bravery don't just clear the room; they win the heart of MacIntosh’s daughter, turning a staged humiliation into a triumph of character over class pretension.
