Summary
In the chaotic realm of early silent cinema, 'Chicken Feed' unfolds as a boisterous, if somewhat bewildering, Our Gang short. The narrative hinges on a backyard magic show, where the intrepid Mango, a young member of the troupe, volunteers for a disappearing act that quickly devolves into a series of bizarre transformations. First, he emerges as a mischievous monkey, then, more inexplicably, as a chicken. This avian metamorphosis triggers a frantic pursuit and a misunderstanding involving a passing hobo, whom the children mistakenly believe has consumed their feathered friend. The climax sees Mango, now draped in a spectral white sheet, returning to haunt his bewildered peers, leading them on a frantic, rail-side chase that blurs the lines between prank, panic, and pure slapstick.
A magic show runs amok. Mango was changed into a monkey and later a chicken, whom they thought was being eaten by a hobo. Finally Mango appears in a white sheet, resembling a ghost, and chases them down the railroad tracks.
