Summary
At a vibrant cabaret, the unassuming steel worker Dundee Reilly's life takes an unexpected turn when he bravely intervenes to protect Mary Malone, sister to the venerable former boxing champion Pat Malone, from the aggressive advances of prizefighter Killer Agerra. This act of spontaneous heroism sees Dundee floor his rival, drawing the attention of Pat, who recognizes raw potential and begins to mentor Dundee for a professional bout against Agerra. However, a malicious frame-up for a shooting derails Dundee's burgeoning career, leading him to a period of arduous labor in a quarry during his prison term—a physically demanding experience that, ironically, sculpts his physique into that of a formidable pugilist. Upon his release, destiny orchestrates a rematch, with Dundee stepping into the ring as a substitute against his old adversary. It is Mary's sudden, intuitive revelation of Agerra's role in the framing that ignites Dundee's resolve, propelling him to a climactic, decisive victory in the final round.
