In a picturesque, yet morally rigid, Bavarian hamlet, the spirited Liesl (Xenia Desni) finds her innocent, outwardly affectionate nature misconstrued as scandalous by the conservative villagers, particularly the stern Bürgermeister (Gustav Müller) and his gossiping wife (Ellen Plessow). Her simple acts of public affection with her earnest sweetheart, Franz (Heinz Fischer), draw the ire of the community's traditionalists, who view such displays as a grave transgression. However, the arrival of the perceptive artist, Herr Schmidt (Paul Graetz), offers a fresh perspective, subtly challenging the entrenched dogmas and advocating for a broader understanding of love and personal freedom. The narrative unfolds as Liesl navigates this societal friction, supported by the charming, if sometimes roguish, local figure (Hans Albers), ultimately striving to affirm that genuine tenderness, openly expressed, is inherently pure, not a sin.
