Love and Lions

In this 1925 silent farce, Harold, an unassuming collegiate neophyte, is thrust into the labyrinthine social rituals of a fraternity initiation. Under the boisterous and perhaps sadistic command of Bud, the lodge becomes a theater of the absurd where men don the skins of beasts to manufacture terror. This domestic masquerade dissolves into genuine peril when Earl, a bumbling auxiliary sent on a poultry errand, inadvertently liberates a predator from a neighboring lion farm. The ensuing chaos is a kinetic mosaic of mistaken identities and cross-species pursuits, as the costumed pranksters and the genuine feline stalk the same corridors. The narrative culminates in a literal and figurative trial by fire, wherein the traditional heroic paradigm is inverted; it is Judy, the resilient heroine, who braves the encroaching conflagration to rescue a smoke-stifled Harold from the burning ruins of his own rite of passage.
