Lullaby

Within the confines of a boisterous, unforgiving inn, a young servant woman, whose existence appears defined by thankless labor and systemic abuse, endeavors to quiet a restless infant. Her attempts are punctuated by the relentless berating and physical mistreatment from the innkeeper and his wife, a constant reminder of her abject status. As night descends, driven by an unbearable confluence of hunger, profound misery, and sheer desperation, she absconds, vanishing into a stark, almost hallucinatory landscape reminiscent of a Chagall painting. Her sudden departure leaves the baby's cries to awaken her tormentors, who are left to ponder her whereabouts and, more profoundly, the true recipient of the haunting, unspoken lullaby that permeates the desolate scene.
