Summary
In the depths of a tumultuous era, Nervy Ned's audacious escapade unfolds, as he attempts to infiltrate a negro barbecue by disguising himself in blackface, only to be discovered and chased by the irate attendees. His hasty retreat leads him to a nearby stream, where he inadvertently imbibes contraband hootch being discarded by dry agents, thereby inducing a state of intoxication. Emboldened by the liquor, Ned volunteers to embark on an interplanetary journey to Mars via a cannon invented by Professor McKerony, the father of his sweetheart. Upon landing on the Martian terrain, Ned's odyssey takes a tumultuous turn, as he is struck by a flivver and subsequently radios back to the professor, apprising him of the presence of notable figures such as John D. Ford and Volstead. The narrative reaches its denouement as the professor and his party converge on the same café where Ned is reveling, leading to a chaotic yet ultimately felicitous resolution.
Synopsis
Nervy Ned, blackened up so he can attend a negro barbecue without an invitation, forgets to smear burned cork on his hands and is chased by the irate negroes as soon as they detect him. Washing off his make-up in a nearby stream, he gets a taste of some contraband hootch being poured out by dry agents up stream. While pepped up by the hootch he volunteers to take a trip to Mars in a cannon invented by his sweetheart's father, Professor McKerony. The projectile lands a few miles away; Ned alights and is hit by a flivver. He immediately radios back to the professor that Ford, John D. and others, including Volstead, have been there first. The professor and his party, celebrating the success of his invention, arrive at the same café wherein Ned is drinking. After a general mix-up, explanations are made and all ends well.
