Pour une nuit d'amour
Summary
In the waning light of a provincial French summer, Christiane Delval portrays Madeleine, a widowed innkeeper whose quiet existence is shattered when the enigmatic Edmond Van Daële arrives as a traveling poet named Henri. Henri, haunted by a scandalous past and a lingering promise, seeks refuge in the inn, unaware that Madeleine's daughter, the spirited Blanche Ross as Lucie, has already fallen under his spell. A tempest brews as René Hiéronimus, the local magistrate, suspects Henri of espionage, while Jules de Spoly, the inn's stoic handyman, harbors an unspoken love for Madeleine. Over the course of a single night—a night of whispered confessions, clandestine rendezvous, and a sudden storm that forces the characters into the inn's cramped attic—their intertwined destinies unravel. Henri's secret liaison with a revolutionary faction becomes apparent, forcing Madeleine to choose between protecting her family's fragile stability and embracing a forbidden passion that could ignite both personal and political upheaval. The night culminates in a tragic fire that engulfs the attic, leaving the survivors to confront the ashes of their desires and the irrevocable consequences of a love that burned too brightly for a single night.
