Summary
In an exquisite tableau of burgeoning matrimonial bliss, Henry, a groom notoriously afflicted with an absentmindedness bordering on the pathological, realizes, with a gasp that threatens to unravel the entire ceremony, that the sacred wedding band has been lamentably forgotten. Amidst this precipitous crisis, his steadfast confidant, Jimmy Teasdale, rises to the occasion with a grand, if ill-conceived, gesture of fraternal solidarity: he persuades his own unsuspecting wife to temporarily surrender her cherished wedding ring for the impending nuptial rites. This borrowed token of commitment, however, proves unexpectedly tenacious, becoming irrevocably affixed to Polly's finger. What ensues is a meticulously orchestrated, increasingly farcical ballet of concealment and misdirection, as Henry and Jimmy frantically conspire to mollify the now-bereft Mrs. Teasdale while simultaneously shielding Polly from the mortifying truth of her husband's initial oversight, all against a backdrop of escalating, uproarious merriment.
Synopsis
At the wedding of Henry and Polly, Henry, with characteristic forgetfulness, discovers at the last moment that he has left the wedding ring behind, but his old friend, Jimmy Teasdale, comes to the rescue and prevails upon his wife to loan hers for the occasion. But when the ring is placed on Polly's finger it is there for keeps, and the efforts of Henry and Jimmy to placate Mrs. Teasdale and at the same time keep Polly in ignorance of her husband's neglect are productive of much merriment.
