Summary
At the heart of a peculiar societal enclave, Eulalie Morgan, a captivating young woman bound by the tenets of the esoteric 'Anti-Kiss Cult,' steadfastly withholds corporeal expressions of affection from her betrothed, Kingdon Challoner. Frustrated by this chaste embargo, Kingdon confides in his notorious bon vivant acquaintance, Bruce Sands, a man whose reputation precedes him with whispers of charming indiscretion. Sands, ever the strategist of amour, devises a audacious scheme: under the veil of a darkened room, he will intercept a kiss from Eulalie, vanishing swiftly thereafter, allowing Kingdon to seamlessly step into the void, thereby convincing Eulalie that her fiancé has finally broken her self-imposed vow. However, fate, or perhaps the sheer audacity of the ruse, intervenes with an unexpected twist. Eulalie, disabused of the illusion, discerns the true identity of her clandestine kisser. Far from being repulsed, she finds herself irrevocably drawn to the very deception, announcing an unforeseen infatuation with Bruce and, with a startling volte-face, severing her engagement to a bewildered Kingdon. This dramatic unraveling precipitates a cascade of romantic entanglements and social predicaments, ensnaring all three in a delightful web of early 20th-century romantic farce and emotional awakening.
