Summary
A serpentine descent into moral compromise defines the trajectory of Arnold St. Clair, a man whose insatiable social ambition eclipses all decency. Forsaking his pregnant paramour, Myra, for the gilded cage of matrimony with the affluent Adeline Stratton, Arnold orchestrates a life built upon deceit. Myra, a woman of resilient spirit, seeks to safeguard her unborn child's future by marrying the unwitting Hugh Roland. However, the fragile edifice of Arnold's carefully constructed world begins to crumble when Adeline's sagacious uncle, Mark, unearths the scandalous truth of his past liaison. Driven by a primal fear of exposure, Arnold commits a heinous act, silencing Mark permanently. Simultaneously, the edifice of Hugh's domestic bliss shatters as he discovers the true paternity of the child he has cherished as his own. Consumed by a righteous fury and a profound sense of betrayal, Hugh embarks upon a vengeful quest, his sights set squarely on Arnold. The ensuing maelstrom of intertwined destinies promises a cataclysmic unraveling, where the wages of sin demand their ultimate, inescapable due.
