Summary
A half-drowned prospector is hauled from an icy river by a seraphic nun whose fingers, blue with cold, count absolutions instead of nuggets; years later, the same man claws a fortune from the permafrost and barters his nuggets for a sequined dance-hall siren whose laugh jangles like spurs. Between the river and the saloon lies a crucible of conscience: a single promise, a rosary of gold, a debt to the divine. Synopsis
Jack Deming, rescued by a nun from a watery grave while on his way to the gold fields, promises to send her a token of gratitude. Jack strikes it rich in Alaska and falls in love with a dance hall woman, thus incurring the enmity of the town bully. After winning a battle with the bully, Jack sends the good sister a magnificent golden rosary.
