6.6/10
Senior Film Conservator

A definitive 6.6/10 rating for a film that redefined the boundaries of cult cinema. Twin Triplets remains a cornerstone of transgressive art.
If you're looking for something that respects the laws of reality or even basic common sense, Twin Triplets will probably just annoy you. It’s essentially a short comedy of errors that gets increasingly unhinged by the minute.
The premise starts with a lie, moves to a mistake, and lands squarely in felony territory. It’s the kind of premise that makes you wonder if the writers just stopped caring halfway through the lunch break.
Our leads are two reporters who decide that reality is way too boring for a front-page story. When they realize the 'sextuplets' headline is a bust, they don't call their editor to complain. They go out and start rounding up other people's babies to fill the gap. It’s honestly kind of terrifying when you think about it for more than five seconds.
Patsy Kelly is doing a lot of heavy lifting here with that signature frantic energy of hers. She’s loud, she’s pushy, and she’s the one driving this bus off the cliff. Thelma Todd plays the straight man, which is a thankless job when your partner is currently snatching infants off the street.
There’s a strange, chaotic rhythm to the whole thing. One scene ends abruptly just to drop you into another absurdity. It reminded me a bit of the frantic energy in The Lumber Champ, where the pacing just goes out the window in favor of getting to the next physical gag.
Some of the background extras look genuinely confused, and I don't blame them. You can tell they were probably just told to 'look surprised' while someone shoved a pram past them. The scene where they try to pass off the extra babies is pure, unadulterated nonsense. It doesn't hold up to scrutiny, but maybe it’s not supposed to?
Honestly, you either go with the madness or you don't. I laughed at the sheer audacity of it, even while thinking, 'Wow, this is a terrible idea for a movie plot.' It’s not exactly high art, but it’s definitely not boring. If you need a palate cleanser between more serious stuff like Svarta rosor, this will certainly wake you up. Just don't ask any questions about the plot. There are no answers here. 🍼
