Summary
Twede‑Dan, a modest country youth, resolves to enlist in the national militia as a grand gesture to win the affection of the woman who haunts his thoughts. The recruitment office rebuffs him, and his aspirations crumble like a brittle reed. Yet the night offers a sanctuary: in sleep, Twede‑Dan conjures a kaleidoscope of heroic exploits—storming fortifications, rescuing comrades, and receiving laurels from grateful citizens. Each reverie culminates in a tender reunion where his beloved, moved by his imagined valor, embraces him. The film, penned by William A. Seiter and Marcel Perez, weaves a delicate tapestry of unfulfilled ambition, the escapist power of dreams, and the ultimate triumph of love over circumstance.
