Zhenshchina, kotoraya izobrela lyubov
Summary
From the humble confines of a pawnbroker's establishment, Antonella, a young woman of arresting beauty and nascent ambition, finds herself on the precipice of conventional happiness, betrothed to the dashing Lieutenant Gilly. Yet, beneath this veneer of domesticity, a more potent, calculated desire stirs within her. Driven by an insatiable yearning for status and luxury, Antonella masterfully engineers her escape from the mundane, embarking on a treacherous path of deception. She weaves a complex web of lies, ensnaring an unwitting husband in her machinations, as she orchestrates a calculated seduction of an elderly, affluent duke. This grand, self-serving performance of affection, an 'invented love,' propels her into a world of opulence, but ultimately, her meticulously constructed façade crumbles under the weight of its own artifice. The narrative culminates not in triumphant acquisition, but in a profound, inescapable reckoning, where the accumulated cost of her moral transgressions demands a stark and unforgiving payment from life itself, a final, poignant settlement for her audacious gamble.
