Honestly, only if you have a soft spot for old-school, slightly dusty British comedy. If you need a movie to actually go somewhere, you will hate this. It’s thin, it’s loud, and the bullfight scenes look like they were filmed in someone’s backyard.
The whole thing feels like it was put together on a lunch break. Our lead, played by Wallace Lupino, spends most of the time looking confused and clutching a bottle. It’s not exactly high art, but there’s a strange, sleepy energy here that I didn’t entirely dislike.
It’s about a guy who wanders into a bullring. That’s it. That is the entire movie, really. Don't go looking for the narrative complexity you might find in something like The Winning of Barbara Worth, because you definitely won't find it here.
There are long stretches where nothing happens except people shouting in Spanish or looking shocked at an Englishman’s hat. I kept waiting for a punchline that never arrived. It’s almost impressive how little they cared about the pacing. 🐂
Watching this made me think of Uneasy Money, but with way less ambition. It’s barely a movie. It’s more of a vibe, if that vibe is 'a headache in a sunny field.'
Is it funny? Sometimes. Is it essential? Absolutely not. It’s just there, existing in its own little world of booze and bad decisions. Watch it if you’re bored, or if you just really like hats.
