6.8/10

A definitive 6.8/10 rating for a film that redefined the boundaries of cult cinema. Devushka speshit na svidanie remains a cornerstone of transgressive art.
Honestly, only watch this if you have a specific itch for Soviet-era slapstick or if you are doing a deep dive into obscure black-and-white comedies. It is light, it is frantic, and it is honestly a little bit exhausting. If you want something that requires zero brainpower, you’ll probably have a decent time. If you get annoyed by characters who could solve everything by just speaking for five seconds, skip it.
The whole thing kicks off because two guys are way too excited for their vacation and forget their passports. It feels like the start of a bad joke. You know the type where the punchline never actually arrives.
The girl at the post office is the real MVP of the disaster. She’s rushing to a date and, naturally, tosses the wrong envelopes to the wrong people. It is the kind of stuff that would be a nightmare in real life but here it is just an excuse for people to bump into each other in hallways.
I found myself staring at the background extras more than the leads. There’s a guy in the third scene who just walks in, looks confused, and stays there for a full minute. It is bizarre. It reminded me a bit of the awkward pacing you find in The Great Lover, where the silence feels like a character of its own.
It doesn't try to be profound. It just wants to be a headache-inducing comedy of errors. The pacing is weirdly fast, then suddenly hits a wall. There are moments where the camera just sits there, waiting for someone to trip or drop a letter. It is charming, in a dusty, old-fashioned way.
I wasn't expecting much, and that is probably for the best. It’s got that specific energy you see in films like Officer '444' where things just *happen* because the script said so. No logic, just motion.
It’s not a masterpiece. It’s not even really a 'good' movie by modern standards. But it is a weird little time capsule. Sometimes, that is enough for a rainy Tuesday night. 🎞️
