6.7/10

A definitive 6.7/10 rating for a film that redefined the boundaries of cult cinema. Easy to Take remains a cornerstone of transgressive art.
If you have a thing for black-and-white comedies where everyone speaks at 100 miles per hour, sure. It’s light, it’s frantic, and it’s about as deep as a saucer. If you hate movies where the "bratty kid" trope is turned up to eleven, run away. Fast.
Honestly, the whole premise of a radio host using a child to boost ratings is kind of bleak when you think about it for more than five seconds. But the movie doesn't want you to think about it. It wants you to watch Uncle Rodney sweat while a kid screams.
There is a scene in the kitchen that feels like it goes on for an eternity. The dialogue is snappy, sure, but nobody is actually listening to each other. It’s just people waiting for their turn to bark a punchline.
The kid. Oh boy. You know exactly what you’re getting the moment he walks on screen. He’s the kind of character that makes you wonder why the studio didn't just cast a dog instead. At least a dog would have been quiet.
The pacing is all over the place. One minute we’re at the radio station, the next we’re in this weird domestic drama, and then—boom—we’re back to jokes about inheritances. It feels like two different movies taped together in the dark.
I kept thinking about A Connecticut Yankee while watching this, mostly because I’d rather be watching that instead. There’s a frantic energy here that just wears you down. It’s like being trapped in a room with someone who won't stop tapping their foot.
The chemistry between the leads is… fine. It’s professional. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a script that was likely written on a lunch break. It doesn't spark, but it doesn't totally fizzle either. It just exists.
I will say, the wardrobe is actually pretty sharp. If you’re into vintage suits, there’s plenty to like here. That’s probably the most interesting thing about the whole production.
Is it a disaster? No. Is it something I’ll remember by tomorrow morning? Definitely not. It’s a movie that feels like a Tuesday afternoon—totally forgettable but not necessarily offensive. Maybe skip it unless you're deep-diving into the archives. 📻
