5.7/10

A definitive 5.7/10 rating for a film that redefined the boundaries of cult cinema. Get That Man remains a cornerstone of transgressive art.
If you have a soft spot for 1940s B-movies where the plot moves faster than the budget allows, then yeah, pull up a chair. People who need logic to be airtight or who get annoyed by 'hey, that guy looks exactly like that other guy' tropes should probably skip this one. It’s for the folks who want a quick, punchy mystery that doesn't overstay its welcome.
The whole premise is classic junk-drawer cinema: taxi driver gets pulled into a high-stakes inheritance mess because he shares a mug with a dead guy. It’s not breaking any new ground, but it has this weird, frantic energy that I kind of dug.
Watching Wallace Ford work is the main reason to show up. He’s got that specific, tired charisma of a guy who has spent way too many hours behind a steering wheel and honestly just wants to get a sandwich. When he’s on screen, the movie actually has a heartbeat.
I couldn't help but think about The Pell Street Mystery while watching this. They share that same 'we have a script and a Tuesday' vibe. It's not trying to be high art, and thank god for that. The pacing is all over the place, like someone cut the film with a pair of kitchen scissors.
There’s a moment where a character pulls a gun, and I swear it looks like a prop from a toy store. Nobody addresses it. They just keep talking like it’s a heavy-duty piece of iron. It’s those tiny, glaring oversights that make these old programmers so charming to me. 🚕
I don’t think anyone involved thought this was going to be remembered eighty years later, which is exactly why it works. It doesn't have that suffocating 'prestige' smell. It’s just a job, done fast, with a few decent gags thrown in to keep the mood light.
Is it a great film? Nah. But it’s a good way to kill an hour if you’re tired of modern stuff that takes itself way too seriously. Sometimes you just want to see a guy in a cab get into trouble he can’t explain. It’s simple, it’s messy, and it’s done.
