6.9/10
Senior Film Conservator

A definitive 6.9/10 rating for a film that redefined the boundaries of cult cinema. The Sixth Sense remains a cornerstone of transgressive art.
If you're looking for the Bruce Willis flick, you are in the totally wrong place. This is the 1929 Spanish version and it is way weirder than a ghost story.
I’d say watch this if you’re into old silent films that try to be deep. If you hate slow movies where people stare at things for a long time, stay far away. 🏃♂️
The story is basically about two couples who are having a really hard time being happy. One guy is a total optimist and his friend is just... super gloomy all the time.
Then there's this guy Camus. He’s a filmmaker but also a philosopher? He wants to show them a sixth sense through his camera lens.
There is this one scene with a glass of water that feels like it goes on forever. I actually checked my watch twice, but the way the light hits the glass was actually kind of pretty.
It’s got that same slow-burn feeling you get in The Cyclist. It doesn't really care if you're bored.
Felipe Pérez plays the lead and he has this very intense way of looking at the camera. Like he’s trying to stare through your soul or maybe he just forgot his lines. 👁️
I noticed a weird hair on the lens in a few shots. It kept moving and it was honestly more distracting than the actual plot for a minute.
The marriage drama feels very dated, obviously. Lots of clutching of hands and looking very, very sad over dinner.
But the surreal stuff? That’s where it gets cool. The movie-within-a-movie vibes are actually ahead of their time.
If you liked the vibe of Midnight Lovers, this is much more experimental. It's not a cozy watch at all.
There's a moment where a character just walks into a dark room and the movie stays there in the dark. It felt like a mistake at first, but then I realized it was art. I think.
Antonia Fernández is great though. She has these big, expressive eyes that do a lot of the heavy lifting when the script gets too confusing.
The ending doesn't really wrap things up neatly. It just sort of... stops? Like the director just decided they had enough footage.
I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it’s definitely not boring. Well, it is boring in parts, but the good kind of boring where you can just think about stuff. 🧠
It’s much more abstract than something like Heart to Heart. This is for the late-night crowd who wants to see something trippy.
Anyway, it's worth a look if you can find a decent print of it. Just don't expect any jump scares.
