You should watch this if you have a soft spot for grainy mountains and people looking cold in black and white. It is a very light movie.
If you want a fast plot or high stakes, you will probably hate this. It moves at the speed of a slow sled.
I put this on mostly because of Jakob Tiedtke. I love his face.
He has this round, expressive look that makes him look like a very worried loaf of bread. 🍞
The story is basically just people flirting in the Alps. There is a lot of snow, obviously.
One scene has a character trying to ski and he keeps falling over. It goes on for a long time.
The first time he falls, it is funny. The fourth time, I was just looking at the trees in the background.
The trees are actually beautiful. The film quality is a bit rough, but you can feel the chill in the air.
Iwa Wanja is in this too. She has these incredibly bright eyes that seem to pop even in the old footage.
There is a moment where she looks at the camera and smiles. It felt very modern for a second.
The costumes are the real stars here. Why did people wear so much fur to go outside?
They look like they are wearing three bears at once. Especially the hats.
One hat is so big I am surprised the actress could keep her head up. It’s hilarious.
The movie doesn't really try to be deep or anything. It’s just a vibe.
It reminded me a bit of the outdoor energy in Sea Scamps. Just people having a bit of fun in nature.
The editing is a bit choppy. Sometimes a scene just ends before you think it should.
There is a guy in the background of one scene who is just staring at the lens. He looks very confused to be there.
I spent five minutes wondering if he was an extra or just a random tourist. ⛷️
If you want something heavy like A Wall Street Tragedy, this isn't it. This is a Sunday afternoon movie.
The romance is sweet, I guess. It feels very polite.
They spend a lot of time just walking through deep snow. It looks exhausting to film.
There’s no big surprise at the end. You know exactly who is going to end up together.
But sometimes that is nice. No stress, just snow and smiles.
I did notice the music in the version I watched didn't quite fit the mood. It was too loud for such a quiet story.
Anyway, it’s a decent watch if you like history. Just don't expect it to be a masterpiece.
