5.7/10

A definitive 5.7/10 rating for a film that redefined the boundaries of cult cinema. Mahabbat oyunu remains a cornerstone of transgressive art.
If you like movies that feel like a warm, slightly dusty hug from the past, you’ll dig Mahabbat oyunu. It is sweet, it is predictable, and it does not have a single explosion in it. If you need high-octane drama or complicated plot twists to stay awake, this is definitely not for you. You will probably hate it if you are the type of person who checks their phone every five minutes.
The whole thing centers on these three guys hanging out in a garage. It is just a bunch of grease, tools, and one girl who eventually picks a favorite. I mean, we have all seen this trope a thousand times before. But there is something about the way V. Koçetov carries himself that makes the cliché feel kind of fresh again.
The chemistry between the three leads is actually pretty fun. They bicker like real friends do, mostly about parts and repairs, but underneath it all, you can see the tension when she walks by. It is not Shakespeare, but it feels honest in a way that modern rom-coms usually forget to be.
There is this one scene where they are just standing around a car engine, pretending to work while looking over their shoulders to see where she went. The silence is golden. It is those little moments of awkwardness that made me stop looking at my notes and just watch.
It is weirdly refreshing to see a movie that doesn't feel the need to explain every single motivation behind a character's choice.
I was reminded a bit of the casual, low-stakes vibe found in I Do, where the focus stays firmly on the messy business of being human. It is not trying to lecture you on the 'human condition.' It just wants you to watch these guys make a mess of their romantic lives.
Honestly, the movie gets noticeably better once the protagonist actually decides to stop being a total slob. It is a bit cheesy, sure. But hey, it is a romantic comedy. If you want a film that’s more about competition, maybe check out Soperniki, but for something lighter, this hits the spot. It is just a nice, simple ride. Don't overthink it. 🚗✨
