6.2/10
Senior Film Conservator

A definitive 6.2/10 rating for a film that redefined the boundaries of cult cinema. Odor in the Court remains a cornerstone of transgressive art.
If you have a soft spot for the kind of frantic, borderline-annoying slapstick that defined early short-form comedy, maybe. If you value personal space or quiet, stay far away. This isn't exactly The Whirlpool of Destiny when it comes to narrative depth, but nobody asked it to be.
Clark and McCullough are... well, they are a lot. They play lawyers who are definitely not qualified to be in any court, let alone one defending a lady who seems way too calm for the madness surrounding her. It's the classic setup where the courtroom is just a backdrop for two guys to try and out-cringe each other for her attention. 🙄
There is a moment about halfway through where someone drops a stack of papers and the sound effect is like a gunshot. I don't know if that was a mixing error or a stylistic choice, but it made me jump. Why are they yelling so much? I checked my volume three times.
The pacing is honestly all over the place. One second they are delivering a 'legal' argument that makes zero sense, and the next they are just physically wrestling over a chair. It’s chaotic. It’s loud. It’s definitely not going to be for everyone.
I couldn't help but think about how much this reminded me of the energy in The Fly Ball, where the plot is really just an excuse for people to trip over stuff. It doesn't try to be clever. It just tries to be busy.
If you watch this, don't look for logic. There isn't any. Just watch Clark trip over his own feet for the fifth time and try to enjoy the absolute silliness of it all. It’s not genius, but it’s certainly… something. 💨
