If you like movies where the scenery does all the heavy lifting, you'll probably dig this. But if you need a plot that actually moves, or characters who talk about things other than climbing gear, stay away. It’s an old-school endurance test.
Honestly, it’s mostly just watching guys deal with the mountain being a jerk. 🧗♂️
There isn't really a script here, just a lot of crunching snow and heavy breathing. You spend the whole time waiting for someone to slip, and they do, of course. It reminded me a bit of the raw, uncomfortable vibe in Won in the Clouds, where the environment is the real villain.
The rope work is the star of the show. It’s stressful to watch. Every time they switch positions, I felt like I needed to hold my breath.
It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s weirdly grounded. It doesn't have the glamour you see in something like Show Folks. It’s just cold. And hard. And repetitive.
Sometimes the camera lingers on a rock face for way too long. It’s like the director forgot to yell 'cut.' But there's something honest about that. It’s not trying to trick you into feeling anything profound. It’s just showing you the climb.
If you have any fear of heights, this might actually make your palms sweat. 🧊
