Biography
Born under the gaslight of 26 April 1889 in Manhattan, Daisy Jefferson stepped from the chorus of New York’s streets onto the flickering silver sheet in 1914, the same year she appeared in both the political romp The County Chairman and the first of two screen versions of Rip Van Winkle. Seven years later she slipped back into the dream-haunted role for a fresh adaptation, book-ending a brief but indelible silent-era career. Off-screen she shared her life—and last name—with actor Thomas Jefferson. The final curtain fell on 3 June 1967 in Los Angeles, three thousand miles from her first spotlight yet forever framed by the glow of early cinema.
