Earl Metcalfe

Biography

On January 26, 1928, Earl Metcalfe, during his fifth aerial piloting lesson, was navigating the skies above Glendale with Roy Wilson, an instructor from the local Wilson Aero Service. Mid-flight, the aircraft abruptly executed an unforeseen loop, tragically flinging Metcalfe from the plane to his immediate demise. His body was subsequently discovered at the intersection of Lake and Stazier Streets in Burbank, then conveyed to the Powell Undertaking Company Morgue. (Los Angeles Times, January 27, 1928)
