Biography
Frankie Mann entered the world on 3 July 1892 in Plainfield, New Jersey, and stepped before the cameras while serials and cliffhangers still felt brand-new. Between 1916 and 1924 she slipped into three very different skins: the imperiled heroine of *The Shielding Shadow*, the seaside conspirator of *Shadows of the Sea*, and the punctual romantic of *On Time*. Off-screen she collected two husbands—actor Donald Hall and writer-impresario Murdock Pemberton—each marriage adding its own subplot to her story. Her final curtain fell on 23 June 1969 in New York City, the same metropolis that had once served as her professional playground.
