Biography
Fritz Richard first drew breath on 17 November 1869 amid the gas-lamps and waltzes of Vienna. Within decades he had slipped behind both footlights and camera lenses, guiding stories as an actor and quietly shaping them as a director. Audiences of the early 1920s remember his shadow in Herzog Ferrantes Ende (1922) and the shimmering fairy-tale fragility of Glasprinzessin (1921), while detective-thriller devotees still chase the clues he left in Stuart Webbs: Die Toten erwachen (1915). Off-screen, he shared his life with actress Frida Richard. On 9 February 1933 the curtain fell for the last time; he died in Berlin, the city that had become his second home.
