Biography
A winter baby, Jack Pratt drew his first breath on 12 January 1878 amid the snow-laced pines of New Brunswick, Canada. Within a few restless years he had traded frost for footlights, slipping in front of the camera just as cinema learned to speak. Audiences met him in the 1914 one-reel heart-tugger “Dan,” watched him steer 1915’s “A Man’s Making,” and, nearly a decade later, felt the salty spray of 1923’s “The Rip-Tide,” a film he also directed from the helm. The journey ended on Christmas Eve 1938 in sun-washed Los Angeles, where the man who once framed silent stories closed his own final scene.
