Summary
A returning war veteran, Jack Howard, finds his hometown of Gold Strike mired in lawlessness and his sheriff father brutally murdered. Driven by a thirst for justice, Jack assumes his father's star, only to be met with scorn and a campaign of defamation orchestrated by the town's true power, Jeff Taylor, who maliciously spreads rumors of Jack's wartime cowardice. Under a solemn promise to his grieving mother, Jack initially restrains his hand against the escalating reign of terror from Taylor's gang. However, as the outlaws desecrate his home, abduct his beloved Molly Turner, and cunningly attempt to frame him for their own crimes, Mrs. Howard releases her son from his vow. Synopsis
Jack Howard returns from the war to learn that his father, Sheriff Howard, has been killed by an unknown assailant. He resolves to avenge his father and induces the mayor of Gold Strike to swear him in as sheriff. Jack is jeered by local heavies, whose leader, Jeff Taylor, has spread rumors of Jack's cowardice during the war. At his mother's request, Jack promises to refrain from interfering with the gang's depredations and robberies. However, after the outlaws vandalize Jack's home, abduct his sweetheart, Molly Turner, and attempt to frame him for a robbery, Mrs. Howard releases her son from his promise.
