Biography
Nashville greeted Margaret Landis on 31 August 1891, and by 1918 she had traded Tennessee quiet for the flicker of silent screens, stealing scenes in Amarilly of Clothes-Line Alley. Five years later she did it twice more, headlining What Wives Want and Alice Adams in the same whirlwind 1923. Off-camera, she said “I do” twice—first to J. Hamilton Couper, then to director Bertram Bracken—before slipping out of the spotlight. Six decades later, on 8 April 1981, she took her final bow in Oakland, California, closing the curtain at 89.
