Biography
Chattanooga, Tennessee, greeted Sally Crute’s arrival on 27 June 1886, and from that river-town beginning she marched toward flickering nickelodeon screens. Between 1915 and 1919 she slipped into characters as light as The Widow’s Breezy Suit, chased vengeance down The Avenging Trail, and wrestled with conscience in Atonement. Off-camera she sharpened stories with her own pen, proving she could conjure drama behind the scenes as well as in front of the lens. Nearly six decades after her first close-up, she took her final bow in Miami, Florida, on 12 August 1971.
