Biography
Born under the damp skies of County Cork on 21 October 1861, William H. Turner crossed the Atlantic and carved out a silent-era niche that flickered across nickelodeon screens long before talkies took hold. Audiences remember his hypnotic glare in the 1929 stage-horror hybrid *The Last Performance*, his menacing presence in the 1913 white-slavery exposé *Traffic in Souls*, and his megalomaniac scientist in 1925’s ten-part cliff-hanger serial *The Power God*. Off-camera, he shared his life with actress Ann Vislaire, a partnership sealed well away from klieg-light glare. Turner’s final curtain fell quietly in Philadelphia on 27 September 1942, but the grainy images he left behind still hum with electric menace.
